The Urban List set out to find the best steak frites in Sydney — the restaurants that might rival the Parisians. 24 York made the list. One dish, one address, no hedging.

The dish is a 220g MB2+ O’Connor Superior Grass-Fed Scotch Fillet, grilled and sliced, served with beef tallow fries and a choice of four house sauces: peppercorn, chimichurri, umami butter or veal jus. Urban List noted it is “grilled, sliced into four and served swiftly” — swift service is a feature, not a footnote.

Most steak frites in Sydney is a menu item. At 24 York, it’s the menu. That distinction matters. A kitchen running one main course gives the scotch fillet and the tallow fries the same level of attention every service. The MB2+ marble score on the O’Connor cut is consistent. The fries are consistent. The four sauces are made in-house.

Urban List described it as a restaurant that “puts all its chips on one signature dish” — and after nearly a year of service on York Street, that confidence has proved out.

What to Order

Start with the steak frites. The peppercorn sauce is built on a creamy mushroom base, balanced rather than overpowering. Chimichurri cuts the richness cleanly. Umami butter brings depth. Veal jus is the classical choice.
